How Much a Dubai Brand Should Budget for Photography in a Year

8 min readPrices checked

Four shoots in four rooms: a blush abaya in Beige, a printed abaya on the Sand stairs, a teal kaftan in Heritage, a pink gown in the Lobby

A small business in Dubai can cover a year of photography from AED 8,720 + VAT with two self-run studio days and one product package, if someone on the team can hold the camera. Shooting every quarter costs from AED 17,720 + VAT, and a brand that leads its category should budget from AED 32,740 + VAT plus creator content.

Each figure below is a list of real shoot days and packages, so you can swap a line for your own category and still defend the sum in a budget meeting. All prices are plus 5% VAT.

Count the content before the money

A marketing photography budget in the UAE that starts as a round number buys whatever that number happens to cover. Yearly photo shoot planning works the other way round: count the output first, then cost it. Four lines cover most brands:

  • Product images for every launch, counted per SKU
  • Campaign images for each season you sell into
  • Social content per month, split into stills and vertical video
  • The seasonal spike, which in the UAE means Ramadan and Eid rather than Christmas

Put rough numbers against each. A label releasing four drops of ten pieces needs listing images for 40 products before it has posted a single Reel. Add a campaign per drop and three posts a week, and the year comes out at four to six shoot days plus a few short top-ups. The three plans below go from three shoot days a year to seven.

Batching is the biggest lever you control. Some costs arrive with every shoot day, however short: the makeup session, the model's call time, the load-in, steaming the rail, building the first lighting setup. Shoot a quarter's products together and you pay them once. Split the same list across two visits and you pay them twice.

Tier one: two studio days and a product shoot, from AED 8,720 + VAT

The cheapest plan that holds up for twelve months, for a small e-commerce brand whose founder or marketer already shoots.

Each studio day at BlueSky Studio in Al Quoz covers every zone in the room, with Profoto flash, Aputure continuous lighting, modifiers, stands, reflectors, backgrounds and support included. For how that rate sits against the rest of the city, see what a studio day costs in Dubai. Full Glam is a two-hour session with two looks and hairstyling, booked once per studio day. The Starter package is one of the studio's production packages: two hours, up to 20 products on white, 20 retouched photos and marketplace-ready crops.

What it does not buy is a photographer for the two studio days, a model, or retouching of anything shot on them. Photographer services are booked separately from room rental, so this plan only works if someone on the team can shoot and edit, or if a freelancer's fee sits in another budget line. Move one day to Concrete or Heritage, where eight hours cost from AED 2,800 + VAT, and the total rises by AED 240 + VAT.

Tier two: a shoot every quarter, from AED 17,720 + VAT

One step up, and the point where a brand stops running dry between campaigns.

Each All-In shoot runs two hours for 10 to 20 pieces, with a model in basic hair and makeup, a steaming assistant, 60 edited photos and 6 reels, so the pair returns 120 edited photos and 12 reels. The Standard e-commerce shoot covers up to 40 products in four hours on white and styled backgrounds, with 40 retouched photos, detail and texture close-ups, flat lays and social media crops.

Spread the five shoots so no quarter is empty: one fashion shoot in each half of the year, the product shoot ahead of your biggest launch, the studio days wherever new stock lands. Creator content fills the weeks between, drawn from a roster of 150+ permit-verified UAE creators. UGC packages from AED 4,400 + VAT are the entry point, which is why this tier's total is a starting figure. Divided by four, it is a content spend per quarter from AED 4,430 + VAT, although real spending follows the shoot dates and arrives in lumps.

Tier three: leading the category, from AED 32,740 + VAT

A campaign day, a full product day, a package for your own vertical and a studio day every quarter.

Golden is the campaign day: three to four hours for 20 to 25 pieces, photographer plus videographer, every room, a model, 90 edited photos and reels. Premium is a full e-commerce day for up to 80 products, with 80+ retouched photos, lifestyle and on-model shots, and video clips for listings. The food Content Package, six hours with 60+ retouched photos and 4 Reels or short videos, belongs to restaurants, cafés and hotels; anyone else takes that line out and lands on a total from AED 25,240 + VAT.

The Ramadan and Eid shoot fits the Golden day, since Golden includes every room and Heritage is the default room for Ramadan and Eid campaigns. The date matters more than the line. BlueSky's rule is to shoot eight to twelve weeks before Ramadan begins. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027, subject to moon sighting, which puts that shoot between mid-November and mid-December 2026. Ramadan moves about eleven days earlier each year, so the pre-Ramadan shoot a calendar-year 2027 budget has to carry is the one for 2028, around November 2027. See how a Ramadan shoot is planned for the room and the timeline.

Where the year's money leaks

Five places the money goes without buying images, and one fix for each:

  • The same set, twice. Without a year plan, the spring and autumn campaigns end up against the same wall. Put every shoot of the year on one page with its room and zone, and repeat a zone only on purpose.
  • The seasonal shoot, booked late. Pre-Ramadan studio dates fill earlier than any other period of the year, and retouching, uploads, paid media and email all wait on the shoot. Fix the date on the day the budget is signed.
  • Crops nobody planned. A campaign framed for 4:5 feed posts loses its edges when it is cut to 9:16, and sometimes a hand or the product goes with them. Write every placement and its ratio into the brief.
  • Props the room already has. Read the zones before shopping: designer furniture and soft textiles in the Beige Lounge Area, brass lanterns and handwoven carpets in Heritage, live greenery in the Lobby's Plant Corner.
  • Four hours booked for an eight-hour list. Time the shot list before booking. A list that overruns comes back for a second half-day, with a second load-in and a second makeup call.

Swapping lines for your own category

The three plans lean on fashion and e-commerce. A restaurant would swap the fashion lines for the food ones, and a salon or clinic without a product range can build its year from studio days and makeup alone. The ladders, in AED + VAT:

Among the fashion packages, Kate's Package includes two different rooms and Golden includes all of them. If a self-run day needs two rooms, ask for that day's price when you book rather than adding two room rates together. Book the Lobby only when the brief needs it: standard rooms hold eight to ten people comfortably, and the Lobby is the room for groups and movement. E-commerce work above 100 items gets a bulk discount.

Take the tier closest to your year, build your own version from the studio's rates, and send the dates to +971 50 503 9936 on WhatsApp, starting with the shoot that feeds Ramadan.

Frequently asked questions

How much should a small business spend on photography per year?
In Dubai, a small business can run a workable year of photography from AED 8,720 + VAT: two self-run eight-hour studio days, two makeup sessions and one e-commerce package, provided someone on the team can shoot. A brand that shoots every quarter, with fashion and product packages, creator content and two studio days, should plan from AED 17,720 + VAT. Count the images you need first, then pick the plan that covers them.
How many photoshoots does a brand need in a year?
Four is the practical number for most small brands: one shoot a quarter, with the one that feeds Ramadan and Eid planned furthest ahead. Two can be enough if each day is batched hard, with every look, product and crop decided before arrival, and creator content filling the months between. A brand launching products every month is better served by short top-up studio days than by extra full campaigns.
What percentage of a marketing budget should go to content production?
No single percentage fits every brand, and a borrowed one is hard to defend when someone asks what it buys. Work backwards instead. List the assets the year needs (product listings, campaign images, monthly social posts), then price each shoot from real studio and package rates and add 5% VAT. That total becomes the content line, and every dirham in it points at a deliverable someone can check.
Should a photography budget include a contingency?
A photography budget should hold back one spare studio day. At BlueSky, eight hours in Beige, Sand or Hotel costs from AED 2,560 + VAT, or from AED 2,800 + VAT in Concrete or Heritage. That day covers the reshoot after a wrong crop, the samples that arrive late or the launch that moves by a month. If the year runs clean, spend it in the last quarter on social content, so the money still turns into images.
